Can I Lose My Citizenship If I Move Abroad?
This past month I had a very interesting question from one of my clients who is considering relocating to his home country indefinitely. He wanted to know that if by leaving, would he run the risk of losing his citizenship. The answer is no. One of the terrific benefits of being a US citizen either by birth or naturalization is that you can reside in another country and not run the risk of losing your citizenship. This is different than being a Green Card holder where there definitely is a residency requirement.
