I Lost My Naturalization Certificate
Clients will sometimes come to our office and tell us, “I lost my naturalization certificate, is there anything I can do?” This might seem like a scary thought if you’re in the process of sponsoring a relative, but the Naturalization Certificate is replaceable. You must fill out a N-565 form; however, it will take up to a year to replace.
I Lost My Naturalization Certificate
Many of the clients that come to our office are U.S. citizens who are looking to sponsor a family member. We give them a list of documents that are required, including proof of citizenship and their original naturalization certificate. Sometimes that certificate may get lost—maybe it was issued years ago, or it was misplaced during a move. They want to know if we can do anything to help.
The good news is that, yes, you can get a replacement naturalization certificate. The bad news is that it takes a year, sometimes longer. There is an immigration form called the N-565 which is specifically used to obtain a replacement naturalization certificate.
